Dubuque is known across the country for its various accolades including placement on various Best Places To Live lists, being named a Tree City USA, and a 2007 All-America City.  In 2009 IBM announced it was creating or moving up to 1300 jobs to the Dubuque area which is one of many reasons the area’s market almost seems recession proof.  That, however, is a far cry from the early 1980’s when things were so bad a common saying was “Will the last one out of Dubuque turn off the lights?”  The past few decades have transformed the area from the place to get away from to the place to come back to, stay in, and grow with.

In the early 2000’s the city local leaders declared districts within the city to better define the uniqueness of the various parts of town.  These districts are The Eagle Point District, The Downtown District, The College Grandview District, The West End District and the Port Of Dubuque.  Signs throughout the city color code these areas and their points of interest.

Many of Dubuque’s achievements can be attributed to the active business people and citizens of the area working together with our local political leaders and economic development groups, including The Greater Dubuque Development Corporation, Dubuque Main Street Ltd, and Dubuque Initiatives, to name a few.

The tri-state area consists of the counties of Dubuque in the Eastern tip of Iowa, Jo Daviess in the Northwest corner of Illinois and Grant in the Southwest corner of Wisconsin.
